W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Sponsored Events Policy

One of the purposes of forming W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Chapters is to create a space where friends can have fun and enjoy good food, wine and the company of each other, and make a difference by giving back to the communities in which we live and leaving a legacy. . We believe close personal and family relationships are critical to our personal well-being and to a healthy society. However, we do not believe that joining W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® should be an excuse to drink to excess nor behave in a way which would bring disrepute to the person, the Chapter or W.I.N.O.S. Buddies®. Thus, we encourage everyone involved in their Chapter, and related national and international events, to drink and behave in a responsible manner and in compliance with local laws. The following policy will help W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Chapters plan and hold events in keeping within the mission, vision and values of W.I.N.O.S. Buddies®:

1. To raise funds for a specific charitable purpose which is selected by the Chapter and/or International W.I.N.O.S. Buddies®.
2. That includes other chapters or groups with an interest in W.I.N.O.S.® or W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Club such as a local boutique or business which promotes and sells W.I.N.O.S.® merchandise, and;
3. That does not conflict with a planned and announced national or international events as communicated by W.I.N.O.S.® and/or W.I.N.O.S. Buddies®.

The following are examples of GOOD IDEAS in planning an event: A local urban W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Chapter decides to host a "Girls Night Out" at a local winery which carries the full range of W.I.N.O.S.® products. Since all the members of the Chapter live in a metropolitan area and usually travel by subway and taxi (some of them actually walk or ride bikes!), they decide to rent a bus and arrange for a catered dinner, with wine, at the winery. Monies are collected and paid in advance for the bus and the dinner, and all relevant agreements and releases are signed on behalf of the local chapter. They meet at the appointed time in town, take the bus to the winery for a great evening out, and return back to the appointed location (a number of members bought the great wines of the winery, and a few W.I.N.O.S.® products as gifts for their friends, to either walk home or take a taxi. Another local Chapter, located in a more rural setting of small towns and farms, decides to hold a "Girl's Night In" at a members house. Everyone is to bring a bottle of their favorite wine and their favorite dish using a recipe from "W.I.N.O.S.® Go Tapas" cookbook. But, because everyone has to drive to the member's house, and it is possible that some of the members may have two or more glasses of wine, the Chapter agrees that everyone will stay overnight at the hostess' house and leave their car keys with the "designated non-drinker" in the group. The next morning, a light, healthy breakfast is served and everyone returns home with fond memories of another great Girls' Night In. OR, the group has a "designated driver" to drive everyone home after the event. Here is an example which might be considered a BAD IDEA: A group of women who really enjoy water skiing, wine and good times formed a W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Chapter. They decided their first event would be a picnic on an island at a lake about 25 miles away. Two of the members had large pontoon boats on the lake and "the husbands" usually did the driving. This was a "women's only" event. For this event, everyone (women only) would bring their favorite summertime dish and either a bottle of their favorite wine or a six-pack of beer. No one remembered that the island is in the middle of a state park and that drinking alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited. When the park ranger showed up, he gave everyone a citation for drinking in the park and their names and the name of the local Chapter showed up in the local paper. The local Chapter and W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® got a bad name in the end! Another BAD IDEA: The XYZ Chapter decides to hold a large fund-raising event for a local non-for-profit group and rented a conference center to host the event. Unfortunately, their fund-raiser was on the same day as HUGE fund-raiser for the local hospital and very few people showed up to attend. There weren't enough funds to cover the cost of renting the conference room so the Chapter decided to use all the money collected for the charity to cover the costs incurred. The local non-profit, expecting to receive a large cash donation ended up receiving nothing creating ill will with the local W.I.N.O.S. Buddies® Chapter. This policy may be changed or amended from time to time without prior notice. The reader is encouraged to check this site and these policies periodically for updates.
